DESCRIPTION:During this 45 minute presentation\, learn the science behind the “Three Sisters” gardening method and the important role nitrogen plays in a successful crop. Also known as symbiotic agriculture\, the Three Sisters function as companion plantings. This program will also dive deeper into food preservation and seasonal eating during the Woodland Era. \nThis lecture will be presented by the long-time Watershed educator Lindsay Kiesewetter. \nThis program is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Avon Library and Garden Club of Avon\, Avon Land Trust and Avon Clean Energy as part of their “How They Grew” Avon 250 Initiative. \nPlease register with the Avon Public Library so they can set up the community room with appropriate seating.

DESCRIPTION:The third of four morning walks designed for beginners at Hartford Audubon’s oldest sanctuary. Station 43 is an excellent birding areayear–round and on each walk we will look for seasonal birds. The walk is roughly 2.5 miles (3 hours) long over flat terrain but we may encounter areas with water/ice covering parts of the path.  The ice should be mostly gone as birds begin to return. SUMMARY:A Day in the Life
DESCRIPTION:The brand new Prosser Library in Bloomfield will host Nowashe Village educator Miss Lindsay as part of their Native American Heritage Month programming.  Miss Lindsay will share a day in the life of Indigenous peoples in central Connecticut.  This program\, will specifically highlight the foodways and material culture of the Woodland Period (c. 3\,000-400 years ago).  Other highlights include: how Indigenous Peoples used the natural resources around them\, how gender roles were divided and how they hunted and prepared food. \nFor All Ages.  Free\, register online here.

SUMMARY:The Great Bissell Bake-Off Murder Mystery
DESCRIPTION:The annual Bissell Baking Competition is underway\, but who will this year’s winner be? As the reigning champion\, Ginger B. Reed is throwing an afternoon tea to size up her competitors and you are invited! Who will rise to the challenge in this year’s competition: her sister Anise? Her spice supplier Caraway Grant? Ginger’s paramour Erastus Vibert? Or perhaps one of the no-good drifters in town is up to something. Will the friendly competition remain sweet\, or is there more something far more bitter afoot? \nStep into the 1920s for a Murder Mystery Tea featuring wacky characters and nods to South Windsor’s past.
